The series of small 20 x 20 cm paintings started with an exhibition that I took part in. Since then I have done many more as they are very popular.
The little paintings give me much joy and I always try to do some in between my bigger works. Painting at that small scale provides its own challenge, but I enjoy doing these little gems.

When I paint people, I don’t want to only paint a portrait, rather a story which engages the viewer and tells them about the person in the painting. I enjoy painting the human figure in the context with their enviroment. Many of my oil paintings are more about converting an emaotion than just painting a person.

I live in George, the capital of the Garden Route, one of the most beautiful places in South Africa. We are truly blessed to live in such a beautiful place. From here we do short trips into the Klein and Groot Karoo, through driving along beautiful mountain passes. Many of my paintings are from some of these weekend trips .

The old enamel kettles have so much history, it makes me wonder in which homes they previously were and who enjoyed them in years goby. For this reason my husband and I collect old tea sets and jugs . So naturally I like paint them.
